Herbal Galangal for Skin Disease

Alpinia galanga is galangal scientific name belongs to the family Zingiberaceae is a shrub that decade old. Height from 1.5 to 2.5 meters. The trunk in the form of pseudo-stem of the leaf blade. Leaves elliptic with a tapered tip. The flowers are greenish white, slabs tongue red-striped white flowers.

There are two types of  galangal  found in Java, namely red-skinned rhizome and rhizome-skinned whites. Red-skinned types who have a more coarse fiber. Galangal likes loose soil with lots of sunshine, a little damp, but not waterlogged. The preferred form of the condition of the soil sandy clay, containing much humus, and drainage good. Galangal is usually grown at an altitude of 1200 meters above sea level. 


Galangal asiri contain yellow-green substance, methyl cinamate 48%, 20-30% cineol, camphor, d-pinene, galangin, and eugenol. In addition, there is a sesquiterpene, camphor, galangol, cadinine, hydrates hexahydrocadalene, and yellow crystals. 


Herbal galangal for treatment; 
Various skin diseases such as scabies, sores, and ulcers: Rhizome of ginger garlic plus 4 times rhizome finely ground and used as slurry (paste). Glue the pasta in place of the sick. For chronic ringworm, add a little vinegar to the paste.In addition, the chopped fresh ginger to arise fiber and given a little vinegar can be used to rub the skin tinea versicolor. 


Liniment, facilitating biliary tract and tonic: galangal rhizome is sliced and soaked in alcohol, then rubbed on the stomach. 


Rheumatism: galangal rhizome is boiled. The water is still warm is used for bathing. 


Other diseases: galangal rhizome used as mixed herbs in everyday cooking is also believed to strengthen the stomach and bowels, improves digestion, mucus in the respiratory tract, headache and chest pain, and increase appetite.
